Nice work on the site. Great to have a local site where the workouts are geared towards our levels (as opposed to the “other” site). Thanks for putting this all together – it’s a great resource.
And for the “newbies” – try it, it’s a great workout. The trainers (all of them) are the best – incredibly knowledgeable who practice what they preach (James and Brett won the Crossfit Games in California), and very down-to-earth kinda guys. And no, I’m not related to any of them!
Most of all – have fun!

For everyone at OPT, congrats on the newest addition to the family. This site is excellent.
I look forward to the whole Calgary community starting to place their comments in here and all seeing the great improvement that OPT and Crossfit will provide them.
Congrats and see you at the October Games!

Hi I’m new to the site – I’ve been looking for a challenging daily workout and I’m really glad I found one with experts here in Calgary. I’m happy there is a resource available where conditioning and strength training is a focus as opposed to less-than-functional muscle hypertrophy.
I’ve got a lot of questions and I’m assuming this is a good forum to start!
1. Could you please explain what a Toyota is, in terms of an exercise. I’ve heard it being referred to here and there and I’m a little confused as to what it is?
2. Unfortunately, I’ve only recently become acquainted with ring-training (I have access to the ones at UofC once a week). Would you happen to know what exercises outside of that environment would help me with an Iron Cross? All the muscles in the arms back and chest are involved in performing this difficult skill. (I’m 5’7″ and 163-165lbs)

Vic, Not sure if you mean a Tabata workout or not.
If that is what you are asking about it is a workout with 20 seconds of work with 10 seconds of rest. For 8 rounds. You can do it with numerous exercises. Crossfit does it with Air Squats regularly. To set the bar for your self what you do it count the number of reps done in the 20seconds of work for each of the 8 rounds. Keep track of the lowest total for the 20seconds, that is your score for the workout. The total time for the workout is 4minutes. You will be bagged though. The workout is sometimes grouped with Squats, Chin ups, Sit ups, Rowing (if on a Concept II use the calorie function to get a score),
Have fun with the Tabatas. If it is Toyota you are looking, I am not even sure what that is other than a very reliable foreign made ca

Want to say thanks again for the effort on this site. Due to fluctuating work schedule, had to miss class today but still able to do a workout at home. And to those who do their workouts on their own — give yourself a pat on the back (if soreness allows you to!) Solo efforts are a lot tougher (I find) that group.

Any news on the OPT Challenge today?

Congrats to everyone who was competing at OPT this weekend. The showing was amazing. Many many PB’s and lots of fun. The comradery built this weekend is awesome.
Thanks to the whole OPT family, as well as the volunteers, cannot ever go as smooth without either of them. See you all at the next one.

Awesome weekend! Really happy to have been a part of it. Thanks to OPT for putting everything together, and everyone else for their support, and great sportsmanship!
Learned a lot from all the trainers, and other athletes.
When is the “All Deadlift, no Thruster” competition happening?

I just found Crossfit Kids – forging fitness for the future. How cute is that…the w/o’s are perfect for my children. What a great idea…I might even pass this on to my son’s gr 5 teacher for her perusal.

To anyone considering ordering a rower direct from the company, I did and had no problems. Ordered on-line, confirmation sent, able to track shipment, arrived on time. Cost $120 to cross the border. Now to move my couch into the basement so I have room for my “toys”.

Hello, it worked! I am able to log in and post comments now. Thanks to all at Crossfit Calgary and OPT. I am cruising into the crossfit wod’s after an 8 week hiatus. Sore, but worth every bit of effort. See you guys soon.
Can I simply say what a relief to uncover someone that actually understands
what they are talking about on the net. You certainly understand how
to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people have to check this out and understand this side
of your story. I was surprised that you’re not
more popular given that you most certainly possess the gift.
