CFC Athletes in Action - the Lane Family

1. How long have you been a CFC member?

Our family started with CFC in July 2010. Justin started out with the Kids group but has now moved up to the Teens. Erin still looks forward to her weekly drop in class with the Kids group every Saturday.

2. How did you find out about CFC?

We discovered CrossFit through last year’s Calgary Co-op Whole Health Challenge. Angela and I were the Co-op representatives at the 1 hour introductory class for Whole Health Challenge participants. Afterward, we decided to try a drop in class and although we could barely walk for a week after our first WOD, we were both hooked.

3. What is your favorite WOD?

Since we have only been going to CFC for a short time, we have not been able to experience all of Brett’s creativity in putting together WODs. However, we have come up with a few favorites so far.

Angela’s favorite workout is “Diane”.

Justin likes to do box jumps and any of the Olympic lifts.

Erin likes to work out with her mom and she likes to do hand stands or anything related to gymnastics.

Trent’s favorite WOD so far is “Kelly” with “Grace” a close second.

4. What do you like best about CFC?

We like the CFC community the best. The coaches and members of CFC are all very friendly, positive and encouraging. We felt welcomed right from the start. The atmosphere at each workout is what keeps us coming back. I guess when you suffer together it creates a strong bond among everyone.

5. What improvements have you noticed?

We have all noticed improvements in our strength and conditioning. We have even been able to shed a few pounds in the process. It is amazing to see what we can do after only 4 months. I guess Brett’s program is paying off.

CFC ATHLETES in ACTION - Ben and Vijai

BEN

COACH’S COMMENT:

CFC Kids/Teen Program is happy to announce BEN C as our CFC Kid For September 2010. Ben first came to CrossFit last Fall through a Friends’ Birthday Party and always shows up to class with a positive attitude, ready to work and full of relevant questions. His dedication this Summer (3 x per week) was outstanding and clearly helped him to reach new levels with his strength, endurance and agility. He stood out at dry land hockey camp and continues to strive to be his best at everything he does. Thanks Ben-you are a great pleasure to Coach!

How long have you been CrossFitting?

I started Crossfit in December 2009 so less than 1 year so far.

What goals have you achieved? What are your future goals?

I have noticed an improvement in my strength and endurance.

My future goals are to continue to get stronger and better in sports.

What are you most proud of?

What I am most proud of is how much stronger I have gotten and how much I have improved in my techniques on the exercises.

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit Calgary?

My favourite thing about CrossFit is how the instructors make sure I am doing the exercises correctly and how hard they push me to improve.

How has CF helped you with HOCKEY?

CrossFit has helped me improve my shot and speed in hockey. I find I can skate faster for a longer period of time and I recover much faster from a hard shift now.

Any other comment:

When I’m at CrossFit it doesn’t feel like I’m working out at all. The instructors make it so much fun, that you don’t even realize that you are working out hard!

Parents’ COMMENTS:

For any parent who is considering CrossFit for their child I strongly recommend it.

CrossFit isn’t just about improved sports performance; it is about establishing a healthy lifestyle that greatly improves the overall quality of life for children and adults alike.

When Ben started CrossFit he was thought to have Asthma; now his breathing difficulties have completely vanished and we no longer have a need for the medications.

CrossFit will continue to be a big part of Ben’s development for a long time to come!

VIJAI - CrossFit Sri Ram Ashram, India

How did you find CrossFit?

I am very thankful of Rashmi Didi who started CrossFit in Ashram. I was looking for an exercise program which can make me very fit. She made me do a CrossFit workout which made me very tired but this it was the first time I ever enjoyed a workout.

How long have you been CrossFitting?

I have been CrossFitting since 2 year. I follow the main site.

What goals have you achieved? What are your future goals?

Crossfit improved my fitness level so a degree that I could never think about. Now I do some gymnastic and O’lift moves.

My future goal is to stay fit and healthy and I am looking for crossfit certification course so I can train people in India.

Olga

How did you find CrossFit?

I joined Crossfit thanks to Coach Chantal. I met Chantal at the preschool our girls used to go together and I took her advise and drop in once and haven’t look back since.

How long have you been CrossFitting?

I have been CrossFitting 3 times a week for almost a year, it will be a year at the end of August.

What goals have you achieved? What are your future goals?

My main goal when I started CrossFitting was to lose weight and get healthy. So far I have lost around 20lbs, and I am able to do a very few unassisted pull-ups (1 or 2), ring inverts (which I love, anything gymnastic I really like) and more excitting for me is actually finishing the Workout of the Day (WOD) with everybody else. I remember my first couple of months every time I came for a workout I felt a little anxious and used to think “will I be able to do anything today?” Now my mind set has change and every day I just think, without doubt, “what will I achieve today?”.

My future goals: Keep working hard to see what I am really capable of, as well start posting my results on the website. No more excuses this time.

What PR’s are you proud of?

I started keeping track of my WOD about 3 months ago so I have a few PR’s that surprise me:
Bench Press: 115lbs
OHS: 75lbs
Row 500m: 1.46.9
Fran: 10:35
Helen: 13.54
